A game we sometimes play as a time filler or ice breaker is "The First One Who Has It Game". I will say things like... I have a sucker for the first one who can show me a holy sock..or I have a piece of candy for the first one who can show me they have a front tooth missing. Never again will I say "I have a sucker for the first one who can show me they have a tattoo that's fading away." I did this expecting your usual spongebob on the arm or unicorn on the hand. I was completely shocked when a little girl ran up to the front and proudly pulled her pants down in the back to expose a tatoo that had been put on the small of her back. She said," See it's alot like my mom's." She got the sucker, and I got the lesson. I won't be asking to see the tattoos any more. We all might get to see a little more than we bargained for.

My husband and myself have just been "called" to head up the Children's Ministry in our local church. We are looking for every bit of information that's available to us regarding Children's Ministry. I happened on the podcast Children's Ministry Talk and am so encouraged! So, now I'm searching around to see what's out there in cyberland and I found this life-giving statement by Roger Fields that is so well articulated. I appreciate your ministry to us as leaders as well as to children. Thank you so much. I'm subscribed to the podcast as of now and will be a frequent visitor of this site. Thank you!

Thank you so much for these resources, it is always great to have extra to use, and to see how other Children's Ministries are doing things.
In Christ

Mike, I am saddened to hear that the ministry you are doing is not working for you. It sounds like you have never been in the right church or maybe this is not what God has called you to do. I believe God puts desires in our heart to do what He has called you to. So I would start by asking yourself what you REALLY enjoy doing. Find out what pushes your buttons. Then I would develop a step by step plan. This is the hard part because the plan may take time. It is also critical to understand that God might interrupt your plan with a better plan. But as hard as it is to change directions it is almost always better than going down a path you know is not right for you. Don't worry about a degree. Many highly successful people/ministers do not have degrees. The important thing is to learn somehow. But find out what YOU are passionate about. I will pray for you.

I am entering my 11th year in full time ministry. It is sad (and probably stupid) but I have worked most of those years in churches I would never of attended. Because of where I was in life when God called me, I never did learn a trade or get a degree to earn a living outside of the church. It is hard for me to stay happy in those situations. Leaving places makes me look like something is wrong with me,(too many of them) and taking ministry positions for the sole purpose of just providing for my family has almost always ended in me being unhappy and unfulfilled. Any advice?

(P.S.) We've met but a while ago (Dream conference)
