You once had a link on your website for the 25 coolest Children's Church's in America, or something to that effect. It was full of pictures of amazing decorating ideas people had done in their Children's Ministry departments. I was wondering if that was still available? I would love to show some of my volunteers those pictures to get their creative juices flowing. We just moved in to a new building and are looking for some great ideas on what we can do with our space. I would love it if you reposted the pictures. Thanks!

A game we sometimes play as a time filler or ice breaker is "The First One Who Has It Game". I will say things like... I have a sucker for the first one who can show me a holy sock..or I have a piece of candy for the first one who can show me they have a front tooth missing. Never again will I say "I have a sucker for the first one who can show me they have a tattoo that's fading away." I did this expecting your usual spongebob on the arm or unicorn on the hand. I was completely shocked when a little girl ran up to the front and proudly pulled her pants down in the back to expose a tatoo that had been put on the small of her back. She said," See it's alot like my mom's." She got the sucker, and I got the lesson. I won't be asking to see the tattoos any more. We all might get to see a little more than we bargained for.

Thank you so much for these resources, it is always great to have extra to use, and to see how other Children's Ministries are doing things.

Mike, I am saddened to hear that the ministry you are doing is not working for you. It sounds like you have never been in the right church or maybe this is not what God has called you to do. I believe God puts desires in our heart to do what He has called you to. So I would start by asking yourself what you REALLY enjoy doing. Find out what pushes your buttons. Then I would develop a step by step plan. This is the hard part because the plan may take time. It is also critical to understand that God might interrupt your plan with a better plan. But as hard as it is to change directions it is almost always better than going down a path you know is not right for you. Don't worry about a degree. Many highly successful people/ministers do not have degrees. The important thing is to learn somehow. But find out what YOU are passionate about. I will pray for you.

I am entering my 11th year in full time ministry. It is sad (and probably stupid) but I have worked most of those years in churches I would never of attended. Because of where I was in life when God called me, I never did learn a trade or get a degree to earn a living outside of the church. It is hard for me to stay happy in those situations. Leaving places makes me look like something is wrong with me,(too many of them) and taking ministry positions for the sole purpose of just providing for my family has almost always ended in me being unhappy and unfulfilled. Any advice?

(P.S.) We've met but a while ago (Dream conference)

My husband and I are ministry partners and have co-pastored a few children's ministries since we got married. At our first church we had an annual event called Powerweek. On the last night we wanted to do something fun to involve the parents so we had a Family Olympics night. The night consisted of a bunch of crazy games, one of which included, passing water balloons that had been coated in vegetable oil. We had a kid pool full of vegetable oil where the water balloons 'marinated' before the game. The game was great and disgusting and let us a step closer to awarding our gold medals to the winning family. At the end of the night we were exhausted and just dumped out the pool in front of the fellowship hall.

The flood of vegetable oil ran off the grass and soaked into the pavement in the parking lot. It created a HUGE oil spot bigger than our poor 95 Nissan Sentra. You can imagine the meetings we were called to! For weeks we had to park over the spot on Sunday at the request of the leadership to cover this eye sore.

We attempted to clean it up with huge bags of cat litter, soap, water, special chemicals from cleaning companies...nothing worked. They eventually had to have the entire 200+car parking lot resurfaced and to this day it still looks like slightly different color than the surrounding pavement!

We can always be certain that we left our 'mark' on the church!
