  1. I am the Elementary Pastor at Celebration Church in Austin, TX. In June 2010, we had a swimming day for our 2nd-5th graders at an awesome retreat location. pool, water slide, seriously fun day. We also had Kona Ice, a local hawaiian ice/snow cone truck company, park and give the kids snow cones. While 45 kids were waiting in line, I decided to make the line a little more interesting. I will do anything to make kids laugh, and in this case, eat a live grasshopper. So, a 2nd grader was standing next to me in line and said, “look at my grasshopper.” I shouted, “who wants me to eat it?”. Every kids chanted, EAT IT, EAT IT!!! So, I ate it. It tasted like grass, and warm goo. 45 kids were rioting in laughter and confusion. After the shock and awe wore off I looked at the 2nd grader who gave me the grasshopper….he was crying, I mean crocodile tears, gasping for air crying. He said, “That was my pet!” Apparently, he had walked around with the grasshopper all afternoon and was showing me, his Pastor, his pet because he was proud of it.
OOPS…. I gave him head of the line snow cone privileges and went grasshopper hunting with him until we found a suitable replacement.
When we arrived back at church, I explained to his mom what happened. She proceeded to tell me how much he loves bugs and collects them. everything turned out OK, but I learned a lesson…..think, before you eat!

I held a lock-in event fir our 4th – 6th graders. I like break dancing and some of the kids wanted me to bust a move. Well, I just got an open area and started doing my thing. A few kids were watching and some were doing other thing.

Well, a few kids were playing with nerd guns. One kid walked backwards shooting his nerd gun. He walked right into my windmill. So, of course he slammed to the ground as I swept his feet from under him. To make it worse, he already had a back problem.

What did I learn from that?

Becareful while busting a move and try not to bust a kid too.
